The Teknowlogy Factory LLC

The Teknowlogy Factory LLC was founded by Dr. Freya Sullivan Huffman.  Her passion for closing the technology gap prompted her to start this organization in 2004.  After going through her first layoff, she had to learn how to survive and provide for her family. 

 

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Claflin University and earned three internships and a co-op.  She thought this would secure her future being a woman in Information Technology.  She learned quickly that the world of business has ebbs and flows and went through her very first layoff.  She continued to pursue higher education and was a awarded a fellowship and co-op by the Department of Energy and she attended Clemson University as a graduate Computer Science student.  While she was not the only diverse graduate student in the program, she was the only African-American in the program at the time (male or female).

 

After attending Clemson University for a year and working a co-op at Westinghouse (Department of Energy), she took her first role as a Computer Programmer.  She went through a second layoff after only being there two years.   

 

During this time she started to train technology courses to help close the technology gap in her community.  She started to build relationships with the small businesses and officially launched the Teknowlogy Factory in 2004 at Augusta Technical College's Small Business Incubator.

After going through five layoffs in her career, Freya understood the importance of developing new skills year over year.  She became a Lead Faculty and then Area Chair at the University of Phoenix.  She found her passion for teaching adult learners and started to career coaching, technology training, and consulting.
